“That was unfortunate. That was kind of an interaction with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, our fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just put up the incorrect finger,” he noted. “It was accidentally performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”
Historical Precedent for Owner Penalties
This is not the first time an league proprietor has been fined for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases involve:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
